Grandparents’ Day 2014 was bigger this year than ever before with almost 100 people coming to visit our school and share in this special day.

On Friday, 31st January, we welcomed our grandparents into our school as part of Catholic Schools Week.  Our day started off with Mr. Healy saying a few words of welcome to our grandparents and parents. This was followed by Father Everard and Father Meehan leading us through a short prayer service. Cory Morrissey and I read the Gospel.

Afterwards Jerry McGrath, granddad of Ned, Mickey and Diarmuid Delaney spoke about his days at school and answered questions that some of the boys asked him.  He told us a funny story about when they had their lunch break, the ducks nearby threw bread at them because they were so poor. Everyone gave Gerry a round of applause.

Then the choir sang the closing hymn which was ‘Let it Be’. The prayer service was over and there was a big round of applause from everyone. As all the boys went back to their classes while our grandparents got tea, coffee and buns.   We waited for them to come down to our class to see our work and see how were getting on in school. We got our photos taken with our grandparents and they were put up on our school website. Later Ms. Glennon brought down a basket of fruit to our classroom and we could pick whichever fruit we wanted.

It was lunch time and we had to eat our lunch in classroom because the lunch room was out of bounds for an hour or so. We went outside to play soccer as usual. When we came back from our break all the grandparents and parent had gone home but everyone enjoyed the day.
