St. Colmcille’s began the defence of their Under 13 Roinn A football title against newly promoted Moycarkey NS on Friday last. On a beautiful September day, the boys in green took to the field with only two of the fifteen players that played in the final of this tournament last year.

On a day when many of the stars on the field hailed from the younger classes, St. Colmcille’s were dominant throughout. Making his debut in goal for the school, Christopher Morrissey kept a clean sheet and remained in control whenever tested. In defence, Cian Sheedy, Kane Conneely, Josh Quinlan, Jordan Collins, Luke Ormond and Seán Collier kept Moycarkey scoreless in the first half.

Michael Cahill and Ciaran McCormack pulled the strings at midfield with McCormack contributing 1-2 to the score sheet.

A man of the match performance from Brian Quinn saw him score five points from play, while Mikey Delaney also raised a green flag for the boys from Templemore. Luke Ormond (0-2) and Edward Ryan (0-1) completed the scoring with David Higgins, Tom Corcoran and Aidan Prout providing support.

On a day when 32 players proudly wore the green jersey, some for the first time, one could only be pleased with the effort, attitude and performance of a great panel. Well done to all. Final Score; St. Colmcille’s PS 2-10    Moycarkey 0-1

Next up is a trip to Scoil Ailbhe on Friday 9th October.
