As part of the national centenary celebration of the Easter 1916 Rising, members of the Irish Defence Force visited St. Colmcille’s on Thursday to hand deliver an Irish Flag and a copy of the Irish Proclamation.

Sergeant Kieran Kennedy and Private John Flynn spoke to the whole school about the importance of caring for our national flag and remembering the people who fought and died to give us a republic to be proud of. Darragh O’Brien read a paragraph from the Proclamation before Pat Maher and Jordan Collins accepted the Tricolour on behalf of the school.

The visit ended with a pride-filled rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann.

Below is a PowerPoint presentation all about the Easter Rising which you might enjoy.

We got our Irish flag from Private John Flynn and Sergeant Kennedy on Thursday 12th November 2015. There were lots of parents and Grandparents there. Mr. Kelly was talking to my Grandad. The army gave us a night off homework. The flag will be raised on 15th of March 2016.
