St.Colmcille’s have always been involved in many different kinds of sport. An example of this is when we signed up a few years ago for the Spikeball County League. We achieved immediate success but the bigger, more experienced schools saw us off later on. This is now only our second year but our hopes are high none the less.

We’ve entered an A and a B team this year. Team A consisted of Captain Liam Roche, Jack Barnett, Marty Varadi, Sean Collier, Luke Ormand and Ciarán McCormack. The B team was made up of  Captain Darragh O’Brian, David Quinn, Kevin Allen, Christopher Morrisey, Mikey Delaney and Brian Quinn.

We set out on a bus from the school with our hopes high. We reached Mile Rovers GAA grounds as this was where the event was being held. We switched into our jerseys and awaited our first opponent.

Congrats to the A-team, who have made it to the Munster Finals. The B-team however was less fortunate. We beat Ayle’s B-team in our first match 18-13. But two defeats in a row to Fethard and Clerihan pet us back in our place.

We then beat Gaelscoil B 18-17. We now were guaranteed a place in the play offs. A win would give us a decent fixture but the other route was much harder. Unfortunately a heartbreaking defeat of 20-19 to Ballylooby meant we were drawn into playoff no.2 against Gaelscoil A. With a loss of 23-9 we were very disappointed. But overall we had a great day and kept our heads held high.

I wish all the luck in the world to the A-team as they progress. Although we got knocked out, the success of the A-team eased the pain. And over all that we still had a great day.
