Active week 2016 kicked off today with the mighty team event ‘Cross the River’ The task is to traverse the hall without touching the floor. The boys use two gym mats and have to work together to move the mats along the hall.

As the mist and drizzle moved on, we moved outside for the soccer and basketball blitzes. The senior boys played basketball while the junior classes enjoyed some soccer.

After a small break the sixth class finally got the opportunity to take on the staff of the school in the annual soccer match. This was a tough encounter and ended with the staff winning by one goal, 4-3. Well done to sixth class who played with tremendous spirit and determination throughout.

The final event of the day saw the junior boys do the ‘Sliothar Toss’ while the senior classes competed in the Shot Put. All Ireland champion Jack Barnett kept his nerve to win this event for the second year in a row.

We look forward to day 2 where we will enjoy playground games, spikeball, crossbar challenge and a treasure hunt!

                        Basketball Tournament

On Monday 4th, 5th and 6th had a basketball tournament. My team was the Tipp Toppers. We were playing in the school yard.

In our first game we played against the GreyGreyhounds. We won eight baskets to no score and that put us into the semi-final.

In the semi-final we won three baskets to one basket and were going into thee final thinking we would win.

In the final we were playing against the White Ghosts and we were drawing for a long time but we won by three baskets in the end.

We were happy to get the points and start the week well.

                My First Basketball Game

I was playing my first game of basketball with the White Ghost. I was nervous because I had such a small team and the hoops are so high. Then I was relieved because we were playing the Green  Goblins.

The game was 7 minutes long. About 5 minutes into the game I got the first amazing basket. In the sixth minute White Ghost got another brilliant basket by Ned Delaney. Then we had to defend I was nervous again but then the whistle blew.

And that’s how the White Ghost’s won their first game.

Ciarán and Luke – Primary Game Stars!

There was double delight in St. Colmcille’s when both Ciarán McCormack (hurling) and Luke Ormond (football) represented the school on the Tipperary Primary Game Team this year.

Ciarán played in the Semple Stadium at half time of the Cork – Tipperary championship match. Luke played in the Semple Stadium when Tipperary beat Cork. It is rare that two boys from the one school would qualify to play in the Primary Game. Well done to both boys.
