On Tuesday 14th of February 2017 St. Colmcille’s sent two teams to compete in the County Tipperary Spikeball blitz. The blitz was on in Rockwell College and was to begin at 10:30am. St. Colmcille’s named their teams The Templemore Devils and The Templemore Recruits.
In Game 1 The Templemore Devils had a good win against Gaelscoil Dúrlas C on a scoreline of 32-09, Templemore Recruits didn’t have as good a start and lost to a tough game to Ayle 23-14.
In Game 2 The Devils continued their winning streak by beating Templetuohy by 23-10. The Recruits won their second game against Gaelscoil B by 21-13.
The Devils final game in the group came against Lisvernane which they won 21-13. This meant Templemore Devils topped their group unbeaten, with three wins. The Recruits final group game was a comfortable win against Gaelscoil C by 28-6 which saw The Recruits finish in second place in their group.
The ¼ finals put The Devils against Gaelscoil A and The Recruits against Templetuohy. Both teams performed brilliantly and amazingly both won and then got drawn to play against eachother in the semi final.
Both Templemore teams played their best all day when they had to play eachother and this was one of the tightest games of the day. With the score at 17-16 to The Devils it looked like it could go either way but The Devils finished stronger and won 21-17. This means The Templemore Devils qualify for The Regional Finals in Kilkenny in March. What an amazing day it was for The Devils and The Recruits.
