St. Colmcille’s recently had a green flag inspection following our application for our third flag which is based on the theme of Water. We had a whole school assembly to present the projects completed by each class. The projects remain on display in the school hall for anyone wishing to inspect them!!

We hope to hear good news regarding our inspection shortly! We will keep you posted.

This report comes from Ben Collins, a member of the Green School Committee:

Water Inspection

On the 1st of March Green Schools Inspector Seán Hartigan came to visit our school. We were going for our third green flag, the water flag. We had worked really hard so hoped it would go well.

Sean arrived at our school at 9:30am. The Green Schools Committee was called from their classes to come to meet him. He had loads of questions to ask us and we answered them easily. Each person on the committee talked Seán through their class project. We told him what we did in our class and how we found out all the information. He said he was very impressed.

Next he went and looked at our profiles and our water plan. He said we had done a lot of great work. We then went outside and showed him our rainwater harvester. We told him that each class has a rainwater container and that we use the water to wash out cartons and paint brushes.

He then went to each class and asked everyone questions. By the time he was finished he seemed very impressed. Seán was supposed to do water experiments with the whole school but unfortunately he had to go away. So instead the whole school went to the hall and Mr. Doyle and Mr. Healy did some experiments with us. We all had to guess whether the object would sink or float. It was really good. After the experiments we all sang our water song. Everyone was really happy with the inspection and we hope to hear some good news soon!
