A long way home for Monastery CBS…..
On the 8th of October St. Colmcille’s met Monastery CBS in Boherlann. Conditions were perfect with no side having to play against the wind.
Ferghal Horan, the ref for the day , threw the ball in at exactly 12.15 and within a minute Monastery CBS had scored their first point. But we didn’t let that knock our confidence. We travelled down the pitch and levelled the game with a beautiful point from Martin Bergin. We kept the ball amongst our forwards for most of their first half with Killian Fennell playing a major role. We got points from Ciarán McCormack, Lorcan Roche and Diarmuid Delaney. We led by 4 point ti 1 when we got a well executed goal which began with a great catch from Darragh Doyle who hand passed it to Stephen Cahill, he in turn passed it to James Corcoran for a one two. Stephen then made a pinpoint pass to Martin Bergin who passed it onto Lorcan Roche and Lorcan put it in the back of the net. We led by 1 goal 4 points to Monastery’s 3 points at half time.
The start of the second half saw Monastery getting a goal which put a point in the difference. St Colmcille’s took their foot off the pedal which allowed Monastery to come right back into the game. Our second goal came from a high ball into Ali Aissou which drove into the bottom right corner Ciarán McCormack and Ewan Scott got 2 point at a crucial time. Monastery CBS never gave up and won a penalty which stuck in the back of the net. 1 minute left to play and St. Colmcilles were a point up, could we hold on. The ref awarded Monastery CBS a 45 which was fisted out by Darragh Doyle, picked up by Marco Quinlan and driven down the field.
The whistle blew for full time and there were sighs all around from players, mentore and parents as the final score read St. Colmcilles 2-06 Monastery CBS 2-05.
