THE DAY COLMCILLE’S GOT REVENGE
On Wednesday, 16th October, Mr. Healy, Mr.Kelly, Mr.Doyle and the St. Colmcille’s U13 panel travelled to Thurles to face our rivals Scoil Ailbhe. The game was in Scoil Ailbhe’s home pitch so they had the advantage before the ball was threw in.
The referee threw up the ball and the game got under way. St. Colmcilles went on the first attack, but lost the ball and Scoil Ailbe got an early point. Colmcille’s soon responded with a point from Ewan Scott. A short kick-out from Scoil Ailbhe was intercepted and it was Scott again who put the boys in green in front by scoring a goal. The score was St. Colmcille’s 1-1 Scoile Ailbhe 0-2.
A high ball was then dropped into the Scoil Ailbhe full forward line and suddenly there was goal for Scoil Ailbhe. The half time score was Colmcille’s 1-2 Scoile Ailbhe 1-4. But the game was far from over.
St. Colmcille’s came out with their heads held high as Killian Fennell flew down the wing and took a rasper of a shot that hit the post and went wide. A kick out by the keeper went to a Templemore player who was fouled. Lorcan Roche took the free and sailed the ball over the bar. Confidence grew in the Colmcille’s boys as Conor Cadell got the ball in the middle of the field and sent a high ball in which lobbed the keeper.
The next ball went to Killian Fennell and he ran down the wing. He did the same thing as in the first half but scored a goal this time. Another free for the boys in green and another point. The referee blew the full time whistle and the game was over. The full time score was Colmcille’s 3-7 Scoile Ailbhe 1-7
A score-line I will never forget.
