Our Teacher Mrs. Faherty gave us the decision of choosing between two different drama scripts. They were “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Helen of Troy”. We decided on Helen of Troy. We were given a script to look through and we all agreed that it needed a few changes. So that night Mrs. Faherty took the script home and made our suggested changes and she did a great job. It was much better than the first version we were given and straight away Mrs. Faherty started auditions for the characters of the play.

The only thing our Teacher was worried about was the 4 female characters required. She asked us would there be any volunteers, and about 10 hands shot up. Auditions then commenced and were soon finished. Ben Collins , Jack Prout, Ciaran Hoctor and I were picked to perform the 4 female roles. We couldn’t wait! We had dresses and wigs and all other accessories in the school within the first week. We went down to the hall every morning for about 4 weeks to practice. We practiced and practiced and had our lines off by heart in know time. It was so funny Mrs. Faherty was laughing every time we practiced.

Then came the real day. We were very nervous and excited at the same time. Our parents were invited in to watch the play. We looked so funny, for the whole play our parents could not stop laughing. It went so well. In the middle of the play Ciaran Byrne’s head-band snapped. It was hanging off his head, yet he ignored it and carried on. Afterwards the parents had tea and biscuits and of course we got loads of treats. We voted it the best day of the year.
