As part of Active Week 2014 the pupils, parents and staff of St. Colmcille’s Primary School, Templemore completed a 5Km cycle around Cloone. This event also coincided with Bike Week 2014 and was supported by the North Tipperary Sports Partnership.

Before the cycle, Garda Liam O’Connell spoke to all the pupils at a special assembly about bike and road safety. He explained to the boys how to check you bike is road worthy and how to stay safe on the road. The boys learned the hand signals required and also how to avoid accidents.

At 1pm on Thursday, over 70 pupils from first to sixth class mounted their bicycles and set off around Cloone. All the pupils completed the cycle safely and had a wonderful time. Parents, staff and Gardai ensured that a steady pace was kept and encouraged all the boys to pedal on. A walking group of 15 pupils and staff also completed the 5Km circuit.

On their return to the school, the boys were given fruit, drinks and a treat to congratulate them on a great achievement. We thank the Parents’ Association and NTSP for their support on the day.
