On Thursday the 21st of April St. Colmcille’s under 13 hurlers left the school at about 11:30 to go up to the G.A.A pitch in the Templemore park. We arrived at about 11:40 and went straight into the dressing room to tog out.
We ran out onto the pitch to get a good warm-up in. After about ten minutes Nenagh arrived onto the pitch to do their warm-up. Then a few minutes later the referee Seanie Everard arrived. Seanie blew the whistle to call for the captains to come up for the toss. Aidan Prout went up for the toss for us. We played down towards the pitch and putt course in the first-half.
The match was on before we knew it. We got off to a good start with Ciarán McCormack lobbing in a high ball into the square. It broke down to the end of Mikie Ryan’s hurley and he finished it into the back of net to put Colmcille’s a goal ahead. We were getting on top of Nenagh with David Higgins, Ciarán McCormack, Luke Ormond, Mikey Delaney and Brian Quinn knocking over a few great points. Our backs and our goalie were kept busy keeping the ball out. We were playing well and by half-time we were winning well.
Mr. Doyle, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Healy gave us a good team talk. We went out onto the pitch to start the second-half. David Quinn, Aidan Prout and Eoin Kelly were brought on in the second-half. A few minutes into the second-half Eoin Kelly scored a cracker of a goal to put Colmcille’s well ahead. Throughout the game our forwards kept the scoreboard ticking. Late in the second-half Nenagh got two goals but it wasn’t enough to get ahead of Colmcille’s. Seanie blew the final whistle and the match was over. The final score was 3:11 to 2:2 to St.Colmcilles.
After the match there was a 10 minute exhibition game for the younger players. Nenagh beat Colmcille’s in that match. It was a great performance by the whole panel. We are hoping now to continue our good form against Scoil Ailbhe on Friday the 29th of April.
