County Final Report

U13 Roinn A Hurling.

St. Mary’s CBS Clonmel 1-11

St. Colmcille’s Templemore 2-03.

This game brought together two fine schools both with excellent pedigree in recent years. St. Mary’s got into their groove early with a fine score from a tight angle by Conor Egan. Ciarán McCormack replied with a superb free for St. Colmcille’s. Indeed Primary Game Star Ciarán McCormack would continue to exert a considerable influence on proceedings throughout and his final tally of 2-03 is even more impressive when one considers he lined out at centre back. On the St. Mary’s side the pace of Conor Egan and pinpoint accuracy of Dean Cagney were also very impressive. St. Mary’s led by two points at the break. Two second half goals from Ciarán McCormack gave St. Colmcille’s renewed hope but a flicked goal from Sam Johnson gave St. Mary’s a cushion and a lead they would never relinquish. Two closing frees from the outstanding Dean Cagney sealed victory for a superb St. Mary’s side. St. Colmcille’s battled bravely to the bitter end but lost out in the end to a fantastic St. Mary’s side.

County Semi Final Report

Well done to the U13 hurling team who qualified for the Roinn A County Hurling final today by beating Carrick-on-Suir on a score line of 4.9 to 4.2.

This was a cracking match played in beautiful sunshine. St. Colmcille’s showed tremendous character coming from 6 points down at one stage to win by 7 in the end.

They will now play St. Mary’s Clonmel in the final and have a opportunity to defend the title they won for the first time in the school’s history  last year. we look forward to gracing the Semple Stadium turf next week and hope that it truly lives up to it’s nickname of ‘The Field of Dreams’.

Match Report – Ned Delaney – Rang 4

After small lunch 20 boys from 3rd Class up to 6th Class were chosen to play in our U13 County Semi Final in New Inn, the home of Rockwell Rovers.

The starting team was Ned Delaney, Cian Sheedy, Sean Collier, Kevin Allen, Josh Quinlan, Ciaran McCormack, Aidan Prout, Luke Ormond, Mikey Delaney, Brian Quinn, David Quinn, Christopher Morrissey, Michael Cahill, Edward Ryan, David Higgins. We had a great start with a goal. But Carrick responded very quickly with a goal and a point. Soon we got a point and things were looking good until Carrick scored two more goals. Then we were in trouble. We scored three more points before half time. The half time score was 3-2 to 1-4. The second half team was the same up to the half way line then it was Michael Cahill, Brian Quinn, David Higgins, Jamie Ormond, Christopher Morrissey, David Quinn for Edward Ryan. We went out hoping we could turn it around and we did. We were the dominant team. We scored 3-5 and they only scored a goal. Everyone played well the final score was 4-9 to 4-2.

We had a great day. We sang songs and Mr. Healy raffled off sweets on the bus. I’m looking forward to our County Final in Semple Stadium next Wednesday against St. Mary’s.

Seven Point Victory – Michael Cahill – Rang 4

We left at around twelve o’clock for the pitch home of Rockwell Rovers. None of us thought it was going to be easy. We were right. We warmed up and then it was time for throw in. We got an early lead by a quick brilliant goal from Michael Cahill. They responded by getting a goal themselves. They they got a point followed by another one and two more goals with us only a few points. The half time score being 3-2 to 1-4.

After a team talk from the managers it was time for the second half. Down by four points we had to up our game. We hit tones of wides but not points. Two men went down injured. A clash ball was only fair. The ball was thrown in Ciaran put the ball into his hand and ran straight in through them and stuck the ball in the back of the net. They took advantage of Kieran being out of position and ran up and scored a goal. We got two points to put us ahead. Michael Cahill assisted by Mickey scored a goal followed by another goal putting us up by seven points. The final whistle was blown the final score being 4-9 to 4.2.
