Clash of the Ash by David
It was a great day for hurling the sun was shining and the ground was hard. In our first match we played Borrisleigh. We were losing by a goal at half time. We came back out in the second half and we hurled our hearts out. We ended up winning by round two goals.
In the second match we played Gaelscoil. We were losing by a point with around two minutes to go. Billy Collier scored a point to draw the game.
We then played Scoil Ailbhe to see who would go through. If we won we would go through. If we drew or lost it was game over. We were one goal down at half time, we knew what we needed to do when we started the second half, but we weren’t playing too well and lost it.
The A team did well and got through to the county final. In the end we just need to shake it off and try again.
U11 Blitz by Ned Delaney
At 11 O’clock 29 boys were split into 2 teams to take on Borrisoleigh, Gaelscoil Durlas and Scoil Ailbhe. It started off well as both teams beat Borrisleigh. The first team scraped a one point win while the second team won by 6 points. After those results the first team were winning their group because the two Thurles teams drew and our second team were level with Scoil Ailbhe.
Now both teams would face Gaelscoil Duras and yet again both of our teams had a comfortable win. Meanwhile when every team had played two games Scoil Ailbhe were still level with our second team. Our first team were on four points and the closest to them was Scoil Ailbhe on 2 points so for the second team it would be the same thing as playing Scoil Ailbhe in a county semi-final but for the first team Scoil Ailbhe would have to beat them twice in a row.
The first team were up first by half time it was 3-2 in favour of St. Colmcille’s and a strong game saw us through into a county final. Now for our second team at half time it was a goal to nothing down but the boys stayed fighting but in the end they lost by four.
It was an enjoyable day and our first team will play Cashel on the 26th May.
A great day at the Ragg!
Today, 8th of May 2017, students from 3rd and 4th class went to The Ragg to play in an U11 hurling blitz.
We left our school at 10.45am, a bus driver collected us and brought us to the pitch where we were playing. We were the first team there so we had time to practice before our first match.
In our first match we beat Castleiney. Both of the teams were strong so we were delighted to win our first match. Then in our second game we came up against a strong and powerful team, Barnane National School. We tried our best but unfortunately we lost.
We will keep training and next time we hope we will win.

Today , May 10th 2017 St. Colmcille’s went to the JK Brackens GAA field to play 6 matches – 3 for the A1 and 3 for the A team.
We were playing against Borrisoleigh, Gaeilscoil Thurles and Scoil Ailbhe.
It was a beautiful sunny and very warm day. A1 won the first match, drew the second and unfortunately lost the 3rd match but we all played very well.
The A team won their games to secure a place in the county final in Semple Stadium, Thurles. We were all very happy for them.
There was lots of support there from our parents and our school.
I was very tired after the 3 games but happy with how I played.
I went for a big cone after and ate it in the sun!
