On Friday the 10th of November we went to play a football blitz in Dúrlas Óg. Ms. Faherty , Eamonn and all of 3rd class along with their captain from 4th Class Liam Britt left the school at 10.45a.m. We were excited and full of energy. Ms. Faherty was eager to discuss tactics with Eamonn on the journey to Thurles. Unfortunately Ms. Faherty and Eamonn were not too sure of where the pitch was and we got slightly lost on the way (only slightly).

We were shown to our dressing room when we arrived at the pitch. We got togged out and got our starting line up ready. Our first match was against Fethard. In the first 10 seconds we let in a goal. By half time we were down one goal and two points.  Ms. Faherty looked worried. We changed our positions and had a serious team chat. We were determined to make a good come back. We started the second half with a fantastic catch from Mark Foley, a super hand pass from Daniel Cummins and a quick score from Mark Foley. We felt more confident now and kept the determination levels high. We drew this match and were unlucky not to win it as Peter Breen’s shot hit the crossbar.

Our Second match was against Scoil Eoin Naofa. We dominated this game with fantastic scores  from  Seán Stone, Kyle Quinlan and Peter Breen. We played against the boy that we saw come first in cross country. Billy came on in the second half and put a great through pass to Seán Stone.   Pat also came on in the second half and made a great pass to Kyle. Roy demonstrated super speed as a fantastic mid fielder. Erik also came on to help the defence. At the end of this match Ms. Faherty and Eamonn felt we were on the road to becoming champions.

In our final match we were put under pressure by Scoil Ailbhe. This match was very close with the final score 1-1 to 1-0. Luke Barnett shone in this match with some great defending tackles. He put a stop to a very close goal from Scoil Ailbhe.  Although he had an amazing final game, our overall the man of the match without a doubt was Mark Foley as he had three very strong games and showed fantastic skill throughout.  Our Goal keeper James Leahy never faulted all day. He was fearless and strong and kept a cool head at all times. He had some great kick outs too.

When the final whistle blew we were very excited. It took us a few minutes to realise we were the County Champions.  Liam Britt accepted the plaque and we all cheered. We were so proud of ourselves. We chatted non-stop in the dressing room and couldn’t wait to bring tell the school how we did. On the bus journey home we sang nursery rhymes and were very surprised to see a guard of honour waiting for us at the school gate.

We were shattered after a fantastic day.
