When we started training for this years’s Cross Country Championships a lot of boys didn’t believe they could run 800m or 1000m never mind win medals. However, with practice the boys in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th improved considerably and the 24 boys chosen to represent the school left St. Colmcille’s on Thursday morning fit and raring to go for their races.

The day got off to a fantastic start with Richard Donoghue winning a gold medal for the second year in succession. Richard is visually impaired but didn’t let this hold him back as he left the field in his wake and powered home to great celebrations with his schoolmates.

Next up came our 3rd and 4th class race, more super performances saw Fionn Slevin and Tom Collier win individual medals for finishing in the top 10 while the whole group as team won bronze for 3rd best school in the race.

The final race of the day was our 5th and 6th class race. Again the green vests of St. Colmcille’s were to the fore with Joe Burke and Billy Collier winning individual medals while also winning team silver. It meant every boy that travelled contributed to winning a medal for his school and we are very proud of the way the boys performed and conducted themselves while representing St.Colmcille’s.
