Every year St. Colmcille\u2019s Primary School holds a whole week of being fit and active and this year\u2019s time has come. On Wednesday 13th<\/sup> of June we risked it when the sun beamed through the clouds and down on to Templemore. When Mr. Healy announced that activities such as soccer finals for 1st<\/sup>,2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup>, the basketball\u00a0 finals for 4th,5th<\/sup> and 6th,<\/sup>,wellie throwing, treasure hunts, but best of all the soccer match when 6th<\/sup> class play the staff were going to be held.<\/h3>\n

We went straight to the treasure hunt.1st<\/sup>, 2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup> stayed on the school grounds for their hunt whilst 4th, <\/sup>5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> went to the town park for our hunt. The objective was to find 11 letters and to make a word out of our letters we have found. It was great craic for everyone. Finally all the teams panted in to the finish line to find out their scores. The blue skies finished the course in a breath taking 25 minutes but none of the other teams dropped their heads as we were all delighted with what we had done.<\/p>\n

After we walked back to the school and had our small bites to eat, we went straight into the basketball final. The two teams who succeeded in the semi finals and had reached the finals were Yellow bellies with Shane Doyle, Aaron Fogarty, Roberto Ianelli, Gavin Coleman, Jamie Bradish and myself against the White ghosts with Brandon Morrisey, Desmond Delaney, Kuba beben, Mark Newman and Lorcan Roche on that team. After a 2 minute warm up Mr. Healy threw up the ball high to start the 7 a side game. It was a tough match but no matter what the score was nobody gave up. At full time white ghost won fairly with a score of 7-4. White ghosts got to play theSt. Joseph\u2019s strong basketball team at 1:45.<\/p>\n

But before that we needed to run off our wellie throwing competition. It went class by class oldest first.6th<\/sup> class threw with all their might but mostly (for almost everyone) people found this awkward sport difficult. Some did throw with ease. There was cheering and chanting as pupils team mates stood up to throw that wellie and to get points. All the points that were won went into the teams sport day\u2019s points. Even the staff had a shot of throwing a wellie.<\/p>\n

After a chuckle and giggle all the students sat with their classes out on the yard waiting for the 6th<\/sup> Class against staff soccer match to kick off. Mrs. Hogg turned up as she was obviously training and getting ready for this game since she had retired. Ciaran Byrne refereed the match and he was very fair. At some stages I thought that Mr.Doyle and Mr. Kelly were taking out the disappointment from our loss in the Roinn A county final on some of the 6th<\/sup> class boys but they stayed on their feet.The pupils scored an early goal and were one up at the break. After some wide shots Mr. Kelly scored a great penalty but it wasn\u2019t enough as Shane Doyle sprinted down the side line and booted the ball into the top left corner. Then Ciaran Byrne blew the final whistle and all the players, staff and spectators ran into the centre of the pitch clapping and laughing and formed a big huddle. Dripping with sweat the teachers and 6th<\/sup> class boys shook hands to finish the game on a good vibe. We all went in to take a few a slugs of our drink and tidied up our classrooms. We were not given any homework after the great day so we all walked out of the school gates with a smile from ear to ear.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sixth Class Take Out the Teachers<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, 13th<\/sup> June, sixth class played against the staff of St. Colmcille\u2019s primary school in a soccer match. The players were looking for a referee and they couldn\u2019t get one. So they got a fifth class pupil. Ms.Glennon asked Ciar\u00e1n Byrne and he was delighted to be asked. As the teachers were warming up and sixth class were talking tactics. There was \u2018Rock, Paper, and Scissors\u2019 to decide who got tip off. Paddy Cadell won the toss.<\/p>\n

The referee blew the whistle and the game started. Early on, sixth class scored, and at half time Sixth class were winning1-0. The second half started with the teachers shooting from the tip off. Mr Kelly was through for a goal until Andrew Ormond caught the ball and gave away a penalty.\u00a0Mr. Kelly was trying to sneak the ball forward. After a well taken penalty it was game on.\u00a0At the end of normal time the score was level. That meant it was going to extra time, Golden goal.<\/p>\n

It was a tough game for both teams but sixth class were triumphant as Shane Doyle blasted the ball into the top left corner. Ciar\u00e1n Byrne blew the full time whistle and all the supporters ran onto the pitch cheering and clapping. The teachers were very disappointed and shook hands with the winners. I thought Ciar\u00e1n Byrne was a very fair referee! Everyone enjoyed the day and best of luck next year to the boys that are playing the teachers.<\/p>\n
