The 34 students who took part received sponsorship cards to collect much needed funds for a worthy cause. Mrs. Fogarty, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Doyle also fasted in solidarity with the troops.

We began our 24 hour fast on Sunday night, 3rd March at 7pm. Prior to beginning the fast the majority of us had big meals, like camels filling their humps. On Monday we arrived to school weak with the hunger but happy in the knowledge that our efforts would reap fruitful rewards for less fortunate human beings inAfrica. As our insides rumbled uncontrollably we revived our famished bodies with some nourishing soup supplied by ‘Café enMaine’ at lunchtime on Monday. Some children treated their cups of soup like gold dust.

As school finished on Monday we felt relieved we had come so far but the final few hours before 7 o’clock proved the most testing. At 7.01 pm we all sat down to meals fit for Kings. After stuffing ourselves we felt satisfied that we had made a difference.

Altogether we raised €905 and we presented it to Niamh Mulqueen from Bóthar on Monday, 11th March. She was extremely grateful and promised to spend the money wisely. It was a difficult challenge for all the students that took part but also a very worthwhile learning experience.

On Monday, 4th March, fifth and sixth class from St Colmcille’s P.S. began and subsequently survived a 24 hour fast in aid of Bóthar while […]

[2

post-876","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
